Peak District
It is the variety of landscape that makes the Peak District so special. For the visitor there are many kinds of countryside to explore-from remote wind blown tops to tranquil dales, from hard rock edges to traditional flower rich hay meadows, from great show caves to gentle river valleys. A unique combination of rocks has created this contrasting landscape. To the south lies the White Peak, a gently rolling limestone plateau dissected by steep dales with crystal clear streams. Surrounding it, to the west, north, and east, is the Dark Peak, an area of millstone grit with heather moorland and desolate blanket bogs, one of the world's rarest habitats.
